Temptation vs Gift
Happy are we who persevere under trials and difficulties.
Because when we have stood the test, we will receive the crown of life that God has promised to us who love Him.
If we're tempted, not one of us should say, "God is tempting me."
Because God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does God tempt anyone.
But each person is tempted by their own evil desire.
When we're tempted by our own evil desire, we're dragged and enticed.
After that evil desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.
We are to be cautious.
We ought not be deceived.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
God chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.
James 1:12-18

Taking Pride In Our High/Low Position
If we are poor, we ought to take pride in our high position.
But if we are rich, we should take pride in our low position.
Because we will all pass away like a wild flower.
Even the plant is withered by the scorching heat of the sun.
The plant's blossom falls and its beauty is soon destroyed.
Likewise, the rich person will fade away and die even while they go about their business.
How To Receive Anything From God
James encourages us to consider it all joy, whenever we face trials of many kinds, because we know that the testing of our faith produces perseverance.
James says perseverance must finish its work so that we would be mature and lacking in nothing.
He exhorts us to ask God if any of us lacks wisdom.
We should ask God because He gives generously to all people without finding fault, and surely the wisdom will be given to us.
However when we ask, we must not doubt but believe!
Because he who doubts is like a moving wave of the sea, tossed and blown by the wind.
If we doubt like that, we should not think that we will receive anything from God.
Because we would then be double-minded, unstable in all we do.

How To Conquer Fear
The best way to conquer fear is to do what you fear anyway.
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

Fear is the imagination of the mind.
Mind breeds fear.
To destroy that fear, do what you fear.
I was very socially isolated at one time for quite a number of years.
I don't think I am an introvert (not frank extrovert either, but probably extroverted introvert) but I became more introverted due to social isolation.
I became uncomfortable with many people around me (as I seemed to have lost many social skills) and became quite afraid of speaking in the crowds.
So what I did was go to many social gatherings, I went to all sorts of social events.
First of all, I moved to a flat where 12 people lived together, 5 guys and 7 gals.
I went to many public education programmes, church events, volunteer works, camps, picnics, dinners and even night club (at one time).
Slowly but surely I conquered the fear of being around people socially.
I learned a lot of social skills through those experiences.
I got to meet a lot of people, with their own personalities, desires, dreams, wants and hope.
So I did that for about a year. That was 2 years ago.
I spent the best year of my life then.
Fear is nothing, when you can see the fear in the eyes, and just do it, knowing that you could make a fool of yourself in the process.
But what I found is that we all make mistakes when we learn anything new.
Babies fall down multiple times before they can properly walk.
I was clumsy when I first started learning to ride a bicycle.
Baseball players need to swing enough times and even fail multiple times before they can finally score home runs.
Soccer players need to shoot enough times toward the net, to score goals.
The best way to conquer fear is to do what you fear anyway.
And that fear becomes a memory.

And yeah, I had this personalised image of fear (like Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace), his expression was so priceless when I conquered a particular fear.
He actually got afraid of me, surprised and gasping, as if to say, "how could you conquer fear? I can't believe that, what the heck!)

Loneliness
Do we feel lonely when we are alone?
I've been in a situation where I felt lonely even though there were many people around me.
I've been in a situation where I was isolated socially though I did not feel lonely.
I believe loneliness comes from not being understood.
Even if there are family and friends are around me.
If they don't understand me, I feel lonely.
If I share my thoughts with others and they understand me, I don't feel lonely any more.
Communication is the key.
I find that even if a lot of people do not understand me or misunderstand me, but there is at least one person who understands me, I do not feel that lonely.
Because I have at least one person who understands me.
I am not alone.
Communication.
Prayer.
God lets us pray.
Actually He encourages us to pray.
Why?
I can't see Him!
But he says he listens to me.
He listens to us.
"Talk," he says.
Lord, thank you for the gift of prayer and I desire to grow in the knowledge of You through prayer.
And I know Jesus listened to this prayer.
I pray for you, too, who read this and all who visit this blog.

Fasting
We often forget that we eat constantly.
We do remember to eat 3 times, breakfast, lunch and dinner, on average.
But do we really consciously realise that we do eat 3 times each day?
When we do fasting, we realise how important and prominently place food is in our lives.
We cannot live without food.
Period.
Hunger.
When we are hungry we eat.
God says this in regards to food.
"Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."
Matthew 4:4
The word of God and food.
Food and the word of God.
If food is to our physical body.
The word of God is to our soul.
Yes, we can live on food.
But not food alone.
Our souls have spiritual hunger, too.
Whether we realise it or not,
We long for something more than food.
Food is not enough for man.
Man needs purpose.
Man needs God.
Man wants God.
Man desires God.
The word of God fills our hunger for God.
The word of God satisfies us.
The word of God is the food for our souls.
Fasting can indeed accentuate our need for God.

I like seeing my own bamboo plant on my desk grow.
I like trees and birds singing on the trees.
Well, how do we grow? How do we change?
What are the ingredients for our growth?
If trees receive light, water and nutrients to grow,
how do people grow spiritually?
I believe spiritual growth occurs primarily through love.
Acts of love is the most powerful motivation for our behavioural change.
Love moves us.
Love frees us.
Love speaks to our souls
Love gives us new energy
Love is unselfish
Love is sacrificial
Love looks to the interests of others
Love forgives
Now if I had a friend with all of the qualities of love, a friend with pure love, would I ever refuse his requests?
No, most likely not (because even his requests would be unselfish and look to my interest and my good).
Would I learn a thing or two from a friend with pure love?
Quite likely, I would unknowingly learn from him a lot of things,
the way he talks kindly to people around him,
the way he is generous to others,
the way he behaves around people and when alone,
and the way he sacrificially supports people around him for their good.
Yeah, I know at least one person exactly like that.
And I am his friend,
Yeah, he is my friend.
His name is Jesus.
I like growth.

Even Demons Believe, And Shudder
Do you believe in one God?
Well, that is a really good start.
But that is not enough.
Because even demons believe there is a God, and know that God is one.
"You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!"
James 2:19
It's one thing to believe there is one God intellectually.
But it's quite another thing to have a personal relationship with Him.
Have you always known there is one God?
But never actually thought that it was possible to have a relationship with something as big and awesome as God?
Well, he is not a God who alienates himself from us.
Because Jesus came to us 2000 years ago.
God became a human being and lived like us.
Jesus knows what it means to live as a human being on the face of the earth.
He knows you and me.
He loves you and me.
He invites you to live this life with Him.
He is a good teacher.
He is a good friend.
He is a good big brother.
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Well, that is a really good start.

Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!

Not all angels are good.
There are two types of angels:
Satan himself was one of the angels who was like a worship leader in heaven. But then he idolised himself,
"I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."
Isaiah 14:13, 14
That was very foolish of him.
He thought he could beat God.
God is God.
Satan is a fallen angel.
And fallen angels are now called demons or devils who are perennial liars, whispering to us that we are not loved by God.
Don't listen to their lies.
Listen to God.
Listen to Jesus.
I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.
Jeremiah 31:3

There are many different worldviews or lenses through which we view the world.
If I could call my lens, it would be the "lens of Jesus" or "worldview of Jesus."
I try to view the world the way Jesus views.
Jesus loves the world.
That's why he came to the earth.
To liberate those who are held captive by sin, idols, folly, emptiness, despair, lonely, sick, depressed, sad, suffering and isolated.
Jesus takes compassion on the world.
Jesus forgives the world.
Jesus chose to give his life away for the world.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16

Praying In A Closet
But when you pray, go into your room (closet in King James Version), close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.
Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Well, here are the things that I found beneficial about "praying in a closet":

1. It's dark in a closet.
- You're not as distracted by visual stimuli, and when you close your eyes, it's actually darker and lets you focus on praying.
2. It's quieter in a closet
- You're not as distracted by the noise around you.
3. It's cramped in a closet
- You're surrounded by clothes around you, so there is very little your senses would need to be aware of. I think it can actually be quite cosy in a closet.
4. No one is around you to distract you
- When you disappear into a closet, you're not distracted by other people around you or in the same house.
5. You're in a fetal position
- Well, for me anyway. I sit down in a cramped place, wrapping my arms around my knees, my head resting on my forearms, and my eyes closed, focusing on prayer.
God Will Wipe Away Every Tear From Their Eyes
Have you been sad?
Have you been in pain?
Have you been depressed?
Have you suffered because of someone else's sin and folly?
Have you been confronted with a person or deed that offended you so as to bring forth your tears or curses?
Are your tears dried up at your eyes, but are still stored deep down in your heart, ready to be drawn out through the eyes if you're confronted with sadness, pain, depression and suffering due to other's sin, folly and offence?
Jesus himself was sad when he saw his close friend had died.

Jesus himself was in pain when he was flogged, scourged, put on his head a crown of thorns, and nailed to a cross.

Jesus himself was depressed when he was in agony in the garden of Gethsemane

Jesus himself suffered the ridicule, criticism and false accusations from people and even betrayal from his close friends.

He wants to identify with you.
He is not a god who is immune to suffering.
He is not a god who sits in heaven above and orders people around telling them what to do and what not to do like a robot.
He actually came down from heaven, and became one of us.
He was born as a baby in a manger.
He grew up as a boy just like any of us has.
He worked as a carpenter, working diligently, sweating, and wiping his sweat in his brows.
So when He says,
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Revelation 21:4
He knows exactly what he says.
He will wipe every tear from your eyes.
Have you been in pain?
Have you been depressed?
Have you suffered because of someone else's sin and folly?

Are your tears dried up at your eyes, but are still stored deep down in your heart, ready to be drawn out through the eyes if you're confronted with sadness, pain, depression and suffering due to other's sin, folly and offence?
Jesus himself was sad when he saw his close friend had died.

He is not a god who is immune to suffering.
He is not a god who sits in heaven above and orders people around telling them what to do and what not to do like a robot.
He actually came down from heaven, and became one of us.

He worked as a carpenter, working diligently, sweating, and wiping his sweat in his brows.
So when He says,
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Forgiveness
Forgiveness frees us.
Forgiveness frees us from resentment.
Forgiveness frees us from ill health of stress and emotional turmoil.
Forgiveness is love.
Love is forgiveness.
Jesus forgives us.
He loves us.
Let us turn back to Him.

Paradigm Shift 2
I thought that churches were of God.
Yes, that is true but the churches may actually hinder the work of God.
The Church is made of people who put their trust in Jesus for their salvation and holiness.
But the truth is within a church building, it is highly likely that not every person in the building did exactly that!
Additionally, the church buildings are actually man-made. The way they look is not actually God's design as revealed in the Bible.
No. No design is more holy, moral or superior than others, given that the Bible does not talk about the design of church buildings.
We can be creative. We are to create just as God made us in His image.
God is creative. Therefore we are also creative, taking after our God.
So, there is freedom within appropriate limits.
God is free. Therefore I can be free. I am free by His grace.
But why don't I feel free?
It's not God's fault.
It is likely that it's man's fault.
We judge each other.
Though God said,
Judge not.
Matthew 7:1
Paul said he doesn't even judge himself.
1 Corinthians 4:3
The statement of Jesus and that of Paul do not mean we can therefore live like the devil, and still not be judged.
They do, however, mean we need to stop our judgemental attitude to others, believing I am better than him, her or them because I do certain things or don't do certain things.
Or I'm superior to them because I don't judge them.
Both parties err.
It means I don't know everything. I need to be humble. I need to listen.
I need to understand before I judge anyone.
And when I judge, the judgement is in the spirit of kindness and love.
The judgement comes from the concern and worry we have for the other person.
We judge and we talk to each other, and see whether we can narrow the gap of misunderstanding, if there is one.
All judgement must lead to love.
All judgement should make us more humble.
All judgement must be preceded by our own self-examination to see whether we're not hypocrites when judging others.

What I mean is what distinguishes Christians and non-Christians is not whether some goes to church or not. It's not even whether they call themselves Christians or not.
The truth is that some of the people who don't believe in Jesus all their lives may end up in heaven, given they repent and believe at the death bed.
Also, someone who believed themselves they were Christians all their lives may not end up in heaven but end up down there, given they deluded themselves, and rejected the relationship with Jesus Christ.
Now, given that I believed someone is a Christian if they call themselves Christians, the fact of the matter is it couldn't be further from the truth.
I may never see that person again after dying.
But I will indeed have a close fellowship with someone who had rejected Jesus all their lives but had a death bed conversion, and turned back to the Lord.
What an irony.
So the truth is I may never know what happens to each of us until we get there.
Then we'll know clearly and surely who had a close personal relationship with Jesus, had a change of heart, repented and trusted in Him, even though the period of time to trust in Jesus may only have been 3 seconds.
The truth is:
Salvation is of the Lord.

But at the same time, let me not be lazy, and complacent.
Let me work as a diligent farmer working on his grains and vegetables.

The Guy In The Car Who Shouted At Me On The Street 5 Mins Ago
Jesus, thank you for this opportunity to pray for the guy in the car who shouted at me about 5 mins ago, probably to intimidate me and vent his frustration and repressed anger at someone, and I was the target unfortunately, (or fortunately).
Lord I wasn't angry.
I've heard enough stories and read enough books to know about this kind of behaviour in a person that if someone does anything to anyone, there's a reason or reasons for it.
And I choose to pray for him instead.
I could choose to think that he's an inferior and pitiable person and I could throw insults at him inside my head.
But I choose not to do that. Not at all.
I could think that there must be a defect or fault in me that caused him to throw insults at me. But I choose not to think like that at all either.
Lord, I pray for his soul. I pray that his personal problems will solved or his relationship problems would be resolved by Your grace.
I take pity on him not the pity that makes me superior to him but rather the pity that I choose to feel, because in some ways or in some circumstances, I have probably been in his place.
Yes, there's no denying that his behaviour was at fault.
In that respect, his behaviour is not acceptable.
I still do not accept his behaviour.
But I choose to accept him.
I accept him as a person.
A person who is sick, and in need of a physician.
Not any physician, but the Great Physician.

Lord, deep in my heart of heart.
My heart is like a deep well.

My heart seeks the peace and joy and happiness that fill the strokes of the picture of heaven.

Lord, a month or two ago, I started to have distended veins in my arms.
I was a bit worried.
Oh, no, are they gonna burst or something?
Then I tried to find a solution to veiny arms.
How to restore them back to normal.
Then I started reading about celebrities who have veiny arms, namely, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Meg Ryan and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Lord Jesus, now I pray for their souls.
Celebrities. Probably, one of the groups most unreached.
I pray for their hearts to be restored back to the purity of childhood when they still remember the Creator through their imagination and wonder.
How they rejoiced the wonderful creation of the world that God made for them and for all of us to enjoy!
I pray that they will feel that emotion again, and come back to You.
To be embraced and to be loved.
Let them not fear the crowd.
Let them fear You and love You!

I was in a desperate situation.
I was very worried, almost devoid of hope.
I didn't know what to do.
I would have had to walk many kilometres to reach my home.
I was very little. I wasn't sure whether it could be done.
I needed a few coins for the bus fare. But I possessed not any.
There he was, YS. He said, "hey sup."
I said, "Hey YS, are you going home?"
YS, "Yeah."
Then I asked, "do you have any coins? Could I borrow some coins for the bus fare?"
YS, "Sorry I do not have any"
I, "..."
YS, "Well, I'll go home and grab it for you."
I, "Really? ... Thanks man"
YS left.
Then a waiting game.
10 minutes passed.
12 minutes passed.
15 minutes passed.
Is he really coming back? Well, he might not have had any coins at home, hmm...
Probably when 17 minutes passed. I saw his figure from afar.
He was running.
He was running to get to where I was to give me a few coins that I desperately needed to get home by bus.
He was like a messiah figure then.
I was saved from the ordeal of walking many kilometres by the road with no safe pavement.
I was in despair, yet now I found a saviour, "so to speak."
YS, always had a smile. Very peculiar smile. But very likable smile. Many classmates liked him. From what I can remember he was always smiling. He may have had braces then. Me thinks, he also had some freckles as well.
He was tall. He was the number 4 when the class roll was called.
I was 9 back then.

Lord God, I prayed the morning prayer,

I pray for the underground churches that they'd be blessed and reassured of the reward for their faith.
I pray that every tear that has been shed will water all the seeds of the sea of souls in China, that they may germinate and grow to be strong and sturdy Christians deeply rooted in the faith of the martyrs and faithful in China and beyond.
Lord God, I pray against the enemy Satan and his army of demons.
I pray that the army of Jesus, the faithful angels of the Lord our God and King would destroy the strongholds of the Satan's kingdom on the earth.
I pray for the strong wind of the Holy Spirit sweeping across China, working in media and churches.

Lord let me be patient.

Lord I pray against the suicidal spirits working in Japan.
In the name of Jesus, all the suicidal spirits in Japan shall leave and be thrown in the sea.
Let Japanese people alone, you suicidal spirits.

Lord I pray against the demons and their works and effects in Japan.
Especially, in Jukai, Aokigahara.
I pray that every suicidal spirit will leave that place, and release those are in destructive pattern of thinking.

Lord, thank you for saving us. We don't deserve your salvation yet Thou still came to save us.
Jesus, our Saviour and Lord. Please save us from our sins, folly and temptation.
He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

Lord, I still remember how I wished to know what heaven is like.
Are there angels? Are there children?
Will we talk normally? Will we fly like butterflies and birds?
I still wonder what heaven is like.
I want to get there. I'll get there by the grace of God, when I finish this race well, keeping the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
I want to meet her Lord. May there be she. Lord I hope and pray that she'd be there greeting me when I enter the heaven.

Knowing the will of God
Lord I still remember how I was in despair because of the lack of hope and vision to which I could focus myself.
I was looking for the right path and way to walk on.
I always sought the answer to my questions of where to? and how to get wherever I'm meant to go.
Lord, I guess I'm still asking that question.
What is my destiny?
What is my vision, the destination..
The ultimate destination?
Lord I still feel I'm in a fog, trying to discern where I'm headed.
But I guess the Lord demands faith and trust in Him more than anything.
Yes, Lord Jesus let me trust in You and follow You every day all the days of my life.

Lord what is marriage?
I've been dreaming of getting married to my beautiful future wife.
It has been in my heart ever since I was little.
I pray for my future wife.
I pray that she'd walk in faith and put her trust in You.
That she'd seek Your face every day.
That she'd love Jesus.
Lord Jesus please protect her from the world, folly and temptation.
Thank you Jesus for working in our lives.
I pray that my wife would continue to pray, fast and seek Your face.
Lord let me do the same all the days of my life.
